Icing and Winter Operations

The Icing and Winter Operations course prepares you for serious challenges that come with flying in cold-weather conditions. 

Whether you’re flying during winter months or transitioning through icing altitudes, this course will help you understand how to identify, prevent, and respond to risks related to ice accumulation and freezing conditions.

Course Inclusions:

1. Surface Contamination – Learn how frost, snow, and ice can impact lift, drag, and aircraft control. You’ll also be introduced to pre-flight inspection protocols, de-icing procedures, and the science of ice buildup on various surfaces. 
2. In-Flight Icing – Understand the different types of in-flight icing. The course covers recognition, avoidance strategies, and how to manage icing when it’s encountered unexpectedly. 
3. Winter Operations – Broader cold-weather procedures are covered here, such as engine starts in cold temps, taxiing on slippery surfaces, takeoff and landing performance adjustments, and cold-weather fueling concerns.

The course is structured with straightforward lessons and checks for understanding throughout. By the end of this course, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to operate safely in winter and cold-weather scenarios.
