Description
The Instrument Rating Ground School – Plus is a detailed and Transport Canada-aligned online course designed for pilots working toward their Instrument Rating or preparing for an IFR renewal.
Whether you’re training for the first time or refreshing your knowledge after a break from instrument flying, this course provides a structured and comprehensive way to meet your learning goals.
This course is suitable for both initial training and recurrent review. It covers the theoretical knowledge required to pass the Transport Canada INRAT written exam and supports safe, effective instrument flying in real-world conditions.
Topics include instrument flight rules and procedures, holding patterns, instrument approaches, navigation aids, flight planning, weather interpretation, and cockpit resource management.
Through a series of focused modules, you’ll build a solid understanding of how to operate in controlled airspace, manage cockpit workload under IFR conditions, and make sound decisions in low-visibility or complex flight environments. Quizzes and practice tests are included to help reinforce learning and gauge your readiness.
The “Plus” version of this course includes the following additional modules at no extra charge:
- Icing and Winter Operations – Learn how to recognize and handle icing conditions, and understand cold-weather flight planning and de-icing procedures, especially relevant for IFR flying.
- GPS Course – VFR and IFR – Master GPS navigation techniques under both visual and instrument flight rules, including overlays and RNAV approaches.
- Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) – Improve situational awareness and safety by studying scenarios that lead to CFIT accidents and how to prevent them.
- Canadian Instrument Rating – Core instruction aligned with Canadian airspace and regulations to ensure you’re fully prepared for IFR operations in Canada.
Enrollment in the course is valid for 1 year, allowing you ample time to complete the modules and revisit content as needed.
Whether you’re progressing toward your first Instrument Rating or renewing an expired one, this course provides everything you need to train confidently and efficiently.
